VILLAGE OF ASHKUM The Ashkum Village Board met Friday, December 23, 2011 @ the village hall. Present were Paul Heideman, Donna Schmitz, Jeff Hanson, Jeremy Beherns, Russ Hull, and April Lyons. Trustees Jason McKee and Ed Tholen were not in attendance. President Heideman called the special meeting to order
at 5:30 p.m. President Heideman distributed copies of the Tax Levy Ordinance for 2011 for review and action. In order for the village to receive tax monies, the final date for the levy to be filed with the County Clerk is December 27, 2011. With the death of Pat Murphy our former village attorney, and with the hiring of Mike Sabol as our new attorney, there was confusion about how the figures to be levied were determined. At his request, previous budgets, appropriation ordinances, and tax levies were forwarded to Mr. Sabol to enable him to understand how the process was done in the past. President Heideman reported he reviewed the figures and they seem to be in line with what he thought we should levy. After discussing the levy, Jeff Hanson moved to approve ORDINANCE 2011-08, AN ORDINANCE LEVYING TAXES FOR ALL CORPORATE PURPOSES FOR THE VILLAGE OF ASHKUM FOR FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING MAY 1, 2011 AND ENDING APRIL 30, 2012, seconded by Jeremy Beherns and the motion passed by a roll call vote. Beherns, aye; Hanson, aye; Hull, aye; Lyons, aye. Trustees Jason McKee and Ed Tholen were absent. President Heideman reported he attended a Danforth village board meeting to discuss the new ICOM contract and their fees for dispatching police cars. Because the squad car belongs to Ashkum, ICOM advised us they cannot bill Danforth separately. President Heideman asked if there would be a problem if we billed them for their share ($400) of the $1,200 annual fee, which is based on the number calls dispatched by ICOM. Their board approved President Heideman’s request and a check has been received in the amount of $400. Clerk Schmitz distributed the 2012 calendar of meeting dates to be reviewed. After making the necessary changes, April Lyons moved to approve the 2012 Calendar of Meetings, seconded by Jeff Hanson and the motion passed. As there was no further business to come before the board, Russ Hull moved to adjourn the meeting at 5:55 p.m., seconded by Jeff Hanson and the motion passed. The next scheduled meeting will be Tuesday January 3, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the village hall.
